SESAP 17 Advanced

For the first time, the Surgical Education and Self-Assessment Program (SESAP®) is offering advanced content for surgeons interested in more specialized and nuanced information in five clinical areas. SESAP 17 Advanced provides the same high-caliber, rigorously peer-reviewed content as SESAP 17 and past editions, while offering an opportunity to further customize learning to educational and practice needs. Subscribers can choose from one or more of the following five modules: abdomen and alimentary tract, breast, endocrine, surgical critical care, and trauma.

SESAP 17 Advanced consists of 243 newly constructed, multiple-choice, case-based questions. SESAP subscribers will find the format familiar, with each question followed by a critique addressing each correct and incorrect answer option. However, SESAP 17 Advanced critiques use current knowledge to emphasize nuances of care, while exploring specialized or controversial problems in more depth and providing additional references. Questions include related images and citations from current literature with links to PubMed abstracts and online resources.

This inaugural edition of SESAP 17 Advanced continues the tradition of offering unsurpassed quality educational content and was developed across two years by five committees with 21 practicing surgeon authors representing a range of clinical and academic environments, general surgery and surgical specialties, and practices from every region of the United States. Participants can earn up to 61 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

The latest web-based tools allow surgeons to leverage the breadth and depth of SESAP 17 Advanced content and find specific information in seconds. Learners can highlight text and use the My Advanced Library feature to create and customize folders with notes and bookmarked material for easy future reference. Targeted search functionality, shared with the SESAP 17 program, offers filters and advanced strategies to provide focused, relevant results and record past searches. For those who want additional practice, modules can be reset and completed multiple times to aid in learning and retention. Finally, the program includes peer comparisons that display comparative metrics in real time.

SESAP 17 Advanced was designed to promote excellence and expertise by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Division of Education. Whether one is a specialized surgeon seeking to stay current or a general surgeon desiring more advanced information in targeted areas, SESAP 17 Advanced is an ideal educational resource.
